A Little History

In 1920, dwindling sales of the Model T pushed Henry Ford to tweak an earlier design and produce a new Ford automobile. The Ford Model A was the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company.

The new Model A was designated a 1928 model, was available in four standard colors, and came in a wide variety of styles including a Coupe , the Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, Roadster Coupe , Convertible Cabriolet, Convertible Sedan, Phaeton, Tudor Sedan, Town Car, Fordor (2-window), Fordor (3-window), Victoria, Town Sedan, Station Wagon, Taxicab, Truck, and Commercial.

The Model A showcased a new 3-speed transmission, four wheel mechanical brakes, and hydraulic shock absorbers. It also featured an electric starter, speedometer, gas gauge, and water pump. It sported a 3.3 liter “L-head” four cylinder that produced 40hp and 128 foot pounds of torque. The Model A also introduced Triplex safety glass that was designed to avoid shattering upon impact.

The Roadster on exhibition was re-engineered and customized featuring all Henry Ford steel with a custom radiator behind a classic 1932 Ford grille shell on original 1929 Packard frame rails, with Ford Model T spring and cross member in the rear, ’40 Ford banjo rear and wishbones with ’40 Ford hydraulic “juice” brakes. Powered by a 1940 Flathead V8 engine, Edelbrock heads, a C4 automatic transmission with classic Lokar shifter, triple Stromberg 97 carburetors, 1940 hydraulic “Juice” brakes, classic wide whitewall tires, and a klaxon horn that sounds the classic “oogah.”
