This Ferrari was the backup car driven by Eddie Irvine and Michael Schumacher during the 1997 Formula One Season. This is chassis number 179, the eighth of 9 cars built for the season, and it is the first of two lightweight cars built by the factory with a higher fuel capacity. Schumacher first used the car at the Belgian Grand prix at Spa.

Schumacher had five victories with its sister car before chassis 179 was driven by Eddie Irvine at Monza where he qualified 10th and finished 8th. He also drove the car in the Austrian Grand Prix where he qualified 8th in the Grand Prix. But failed to finish. 

The F310B was an important car for Ferrari as 1997 was the 50th year of Ferrari’s participation in Formula 1. It was also the year when Rory Byrne joined the team as Technical Director under team manager Jean Todt.
