1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS

The 1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS was the 2nd generation was vastly improved, with a lower body, wider track and all new suspension, but offering no convertible option for the first time in Camaros’ history. Though it didn’t make it to market until February of 1970, the second generation 1970 ½ Camaro would be in production for 12 years. It became a classic American icon, due to its combined performance with its beautifully sculpted shape. Its design was clean, simple and elegant, with a dramatic styling.

The 2nd-generation Camaro had a lower body, wider track, and a coil spring front suspension with rear leaf springs, all built on a unibody structure. The new body style featured a fastback roofline and ventless full-door glass with no rear side quarter windows. There was also a big effort made to cut down cabin noise by adding insulation at key points. The base model featured a separate bumper/grille design with parking lights under the bumper, while the Rally Sport option included a distinctive grille surrounded by a flexible Endura material, along with round parking lights beside the headlights and bumperettes surrounding both sides of the grille. The standard interior also featured all-vinyl upholstery and a matte black dashboard finish, while an optional custom interior came with upgraded cloth or vinyl upholstery and woodgrain trim on dash and console.

This Camaro was Nick Begovich’s first wife Joan’s last new car that she would drive for 87,000 miles. After she died, Nick kept the car for sentimental reasons, as part of his car collection. It was never driven on the road again, along with his other 13 cars, but Nick continued to work on them throughout the years.
