No Detail Too Fine:
Small Craft Stories from Rhode Island’s Herreshoff Manufacturing Co
Featuring: Evelyn Ansel of Herreshoff Marine Museum
The Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. built some of the Gilded Age’s most competitive and elegant yachts in Bristol RI between 1878 and 1944. While HMCo. wasparticularly renowned for their large America’s Cup defenders and luxurious steam yachts, they also builthundreds of dinghies and tenders that were just as meticulously designed and constructed as their trophy-winning counterparts. The three Herreshoff boats on display in “Wonders in Wood” are perfect examples of how the HMCo. dedication to speed and excellence extended even to the smallest details on their littlest vessels.
Please join us at the Audrain Museum as we welcome the Curator of the Herreshoff Marine Museum, Evelyn Ansel, to discuss the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. and explore the Herreshoff legacythrough the lens of small craft.
