1956 Porsche 356 Emory Outlaw coupe

  • Chassis stiffened, and 911 rear suspension.

Rod Emory is a 3rd generation restorer and builder who started Emory Motorsports with his wife Amy in 1996 with the goal of preserving much of the model 356’s DNA and body work, while customizing and updating the iconic vintage Porsche 356. Emory and his team, including their son Zayne, do amazing work, having restored and customized over 180 356’s, as well as restored some very historic Porsche 904-6, 906, 908 race cars.

The original Porsche 356s Emory restores are all referred to as “Outlaws”, as this race-inspired class of cars have come to be known.

A donor car, in this case very complete but in rough shape, but its body and chassis the original all steel, just the way it left the factory in Germany. A concours-quality restoration to the metal while improving the drivability in preparation for the unique 4-cylinder engine. Styling cues are often rally- or race-inspired, but sometimes something closer to “stock”, as Audrain specified for this car.

Every car is outfitted with an Outlaw-4 engine as standard equipment. The Emory-Rothsport Outlaw-4 is a very special creation. Its concept is simple, based on the 3.6-liter dry-sump engine architecture. An original sand-cast 4-cylinder split case that incorporates the best aspects of a flat-six-cylinder engine was designed, mated to a proportionally shortened camshaft housings, crankshafts, and camshafts all of which mate perfectly with OEM parts. The twin-plug engine displaces from 2.4 to 2.6 liters depending on the specific configuration.

This car is a thrill to drive! An Audrain staff favorite, out of the more than 50 Porsches in the Collections.
