2008 Ransom Serpent Motorcycle
Generously donated to the Museum by Dr. Rich Legouri of Port Jefferson, NY.
Bespoke built utilizing a 1-liter Suzuki inline 4-cylinder engine.
Hand-sculpted aluminum uni-body construction.
For the past 19 years, Artist W.R. Ransom has been hand-crafting one-of-a-kind motorcycles of extreme capability. Utilizing new technology - fuel-injected, inline 4-cylinder engines revving to 14,000 rpms and producing a minimum of 165 horsepower. This bike was designed and built for Rich Legouri. All of Ransom’s builds are made to order. The process starts with an idea discussed with the client, building specifically to the client’s physical measurements, with a large dose of incredible art and craft that makes what is a Ransom.
This Ransom called “Serpent” is a one-off bike powered by a Suzuki GSXR 1000 engine. The uni-body construction is hand-sculpted from sheet aluminum, with stainless steel exhaust and taillights integrated into the body. Ransom bent, shaped, and welded the curvy tubular trellis steel frame with an ambitious 39-degree rake angle and a wheelbase of 68 inches - 13 inches over standard, giving the bike visceral handling qualities requested by Legouri. The result is a true opus of design.
The clutch and front brake master cylinders are built into handlebars. At only 415 lbs, the bike is extremely quick. Ransom custom fabricated everything on this bike except the wheels, front suspension, and engine. This build can be seen as a kinetic sculpture, the epitome of old-world craftsmanship blended with advanced technology.
