2006 Harley Davidson VRXSC V-Rod Destroyer

  • Factory purpose built Drag Race Bike based upon the H-D V-Rod

  • Liquid cooled 60-degree 8 valve V-Twin, 165 horsepower

  • Equipped with many race-only parts including a wheelie bar

The V-Rod Destroyer shown in factory Orange and Black with Screaming Eagle badging, is Harley Davidson’s first commercially available “out-of-the-box,” drag racing motorcycle. It was specifically designed for competition in the 2006 All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) and NHRA Pro Stock seasons and was available for purchase at approximately $30,000.  Its 60-degree 4 valve per cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected V-Twin Revolution Engine generates 165 horsepower and can eclipse a quarter mile run in less than 10 seconds at 144 mph. It is not street legal and was designed solely for racing.

The V-Rod Destroyer Motorcycle debuted in 2006 and was built by Harley’s Custom Vehicles Operations (CVO) in collaboration with the Screaming Eagle performance parts division.  With liquid cooling, fuel injection, with a long stroke engine along with a host of Screaming Eagle performance parts, the V-Rod Destroyer was now a legitimate competitor to 4-cylinder Japanese race bikes in NHRA Pro Stock.  Design input was provided by NHRA Pro Stock Champion Matt Hines.

Originally, Harley Davidson planned to build only 150 examples of the V-Rod Destroyer, but pre-delivery enthusiasm led Harley to eventually build 646 bikes.

Setting the Destroyer apart from street machines, the engine is equipped with 14:1 compression ratio pistons, stroked crankshaft, slipper clutch and air shifter (with pressurized air bottle), fuel injection with velocity stacks, 5 speed transmission, racing slick tire mounted to a 6” wide rear wheel, and a rigid mount aluminum swing arm with no rear suspension. To provide stability during acceleration, the bike is equipped with an adjustable and removeable wheelie bar bolted to the rear frame.
