1967 Porsche 911 2.0 S

  • Powerful and enthusiastic 180 HP air-cooled engine

  • Completely original example of a desirable 911

  • Highest model in the Porsche range in 1967

Porsche engine designs embraced air-cooled technology through the 993-generation ending in 1998.

This Porsche 911S is a time capsule, remaining completely original from new. This car offers a unique glimpse six decades into the past for what the purest 911 feels and drives like. The first generation 911 was the first Porsche with an air-cooled six-cylinder engine mounted in the trunk, offering a new level of performance for enthusiasts familiar with the brand. While Porsche expected the car to be well received, its following has grown into perhaps the most dedicated consumer base for any vehicle in history.

Porsche enthusiasts rave for the six-cylinder offered in the 911S.  From the standard 911 , power increased 20% from 148 up to 180 horsepower. Due to the natural characteristics of the flat-six engine, its full performance is achieved at the top of the RPM range, requiring drivers to push the car hard to maximize its potential. Because of this, many drivers became very attached to this style of driving, and matched with strong suspension and a lightweight package, these cars quickly became the quintessential driver’s car for enthusiasts – even though the engine was in the “wrong” place.

The 911 was introduced in 1964, at the end of 356 production which closed in 1965, and was the first Porsche to offer a six-cylinder engine. In 1967, Porsche introduced the high performance 911S, meaning Super. With a 2.0 liter flat-six, it may not be viewed as a substantially powerful performance car today, though this package was nothing to snuff at in 1967. When driving these cars at their limits, they become a handful with its skinny tires and engine behind the rear axle. Porsche even warned, “This is no car for a novice” in their brochures for the car.

As the top model in the Porsche range, the 911S was also offered with numerous performance and luxury features, which certainly added to the ownership experience. Vented disc brakes, Koni adjustable shocks, stiffer front sway bar, along with an added sway bar at the rear differentiates the performance of the 911S over the standard car.
