2019 NMOTO Nostalgia BMW R nineT

  • Elegant tribute to BMW’s celebrated Art Deco 1934 R7 prototype

  • R nineT with modified frame, bespoke built bodywork and controls

  • The R nineT are known as “Oilheads” to distinguish them from historied Boxer twin “Airheads”

  • Air-cooled horizontally opposed twin cylinders (flat-twin) with oil-cooled heads, hot oil flowing through an air-cooled radiator

  • Limited production, 9 of 25 bespoke built by NMOTO in Miami, Florida.

By using the modern engine, drivetrain and chassis components with custom body work, the NMOTO company of North Miami, FL created the Nostalgia, a vintage Art Deco style motorcycle visually linked to the legendary BMW R7 of 1934, the technologically advanced prototype motorcycle that never went into BMW production.

The original R7’s horizontally opposed air-cooled engine allowed the cylinders to be located directly in the airstream and used extensive cooling fins on the cylinders and valve covers. To modernize the powerplant, N Moto saw BMW’s modern boxer twin cylinder 1090cc 4 valve per cylinder used in their sporty R9T as the perfect choice to put modern performance into the Nostalgia custom.

BMW used air-cooled configuration engines for over a century but added increased oil capacity and an oil-cooling radiator employed on all flat twin air-cooled engines beginning in 1993, allowing for horsepower upgrade using and a more advanced combustion chamber design.  The newer engines would be known as “oil head” power plants as contrasted to the previous generation of BMW twins known as “air heads”.  With a modern engine, NMOTO maintained use of computerized fuel injection but adapted vintage style air cleaners to keep the retro style of the motorcycle.

Beyond the engine and frame, NMOTO designed an all-new fuel tank, handlebars, body work, and a vintage style shark fin exhaust system to closely replicate the iconic profile of the 30s era BMW.  The N Moto Nostalgia blends iconic style with modern technology in a limited-edition motorcycle which pays tribute to BMW’s enduring air-cooled engine designs past and present.
