The AAM, a newcomer to the Newport non-profit scene, joins numerous other cultural institutions whose missions are to conserve, preserve and restore Newport’s historic past. Not long ago the Museum’s building was shrouded in scaffolding and shrink wrap. Now the award winning Audrain building, designed by noted architect Bruce Price, houses one of the most beautiful exhibition spaces for automobiles on the East Coast. In a town that is known as the birthplace of the Vanderbilt Cup, the first major trophy in American automobile racing, it has been rewarding to see the Museum become a staple for locals and visitors to Aquidneck Island. But, we are just getting our ‘motor running.’
The automobile not only transports us from place to place, but also through time, making memories, telling stories, and profoundly influencing American culture. Your support will help us identify, acquire and restore important Newport cars, historic works of art for our community and future generations.
